Talk to your GP or Specialist about getting a referral so you can make an appointment with Lyn either in person or online.

What to expect at your appointment

First, get your specialist or GP to send me a referral.

Having your blood test results and full medical history from your doctor means I have all the information I need to give you fully personalised and tailored information at your first consultation. So we can make the most of your time, and you get the information you need to prevent stone recurrence without delay.

Head over here to find out how to get the referral.  And what should your doctor include in your referral.

When I have your referral, my receptionist will be in touch with you to book your first appointment.

You can attend your appointment in person if you’re in Auckland or online throughout New Zealand.

Our first appointment together

Put aside 45 minutes for our first appointment together. Your doctor's referral will give me your test results and medical history.
Please bring your 3-day food record with you. [Links to pdf download] Lyn to provide pdf.

It can be helpful to bring a support person to our meeting. If you’re not the person regularly cooking or shopping for food, bringing that person with you might be best.

Our first appointment is about getting to know you and what you need support with. We’ll spend time talking about your nutrition questions and what will help you achieve your goals. If available, I’ll already have your blood tests as well as other relevant information from your doctor. So, we’ll review these results together and ensure you understand them.

I’m a dietitian, so we’ll talk about what you eat, what you like to eat, when and where you eat, and why you make the food choices you do. This will help me tailor my advice to be as practical and relevant to your life as possible.

Then, we’ll talk about how you can delay the progression of your kidney disease or preserve kidney function. When you leave, you’ll have a tailored, nutrition plan and supporting information to help you manage your kidney disease clearly and leave you feeling confidently in control.  I’ll write to your doctor and give you a copy, to tell them what we’ve spoken about.

At your follow-up appointment

Your follow-up appointment will be 30 minutes long. If we need repeat blood tests before your appointment, I’ll contact you to let you know. You might need more blood tests to check the impact of the nutrition changes.

It is an opportunity for you to check in with me and ask any questions or express any concerns you might have. We’ll see how you’re progressing  with your nutrition goals and provide further suggestions to help you achieve your goals

“I’ve already changed my diet so many times. How can you help?!”  and other questions you might have

I've already changed my diet so many times. How is your service going to make a difference?

It is understandable to feel frustrated after trying multiple diets without seeing results. The key opportunity here lies in personalised, evidence-based guidance. Unlike general dietary changes, I offer a customised approach tailored to your specific type of Kidney Disease, lifestyle, and preferences, ensuring that your changes are effective and sustainable.

I'm worried about limiting my diet further. How restrictive will this be?

Many fear that managing CKD nutritionally means a life of severe restrictions. However, my approach focuses on broadening your food and drink choices while showing you how different foods affect your kidneys. This means finding more of what you can eat, not less, to maintain kidney function and enjoy meals without stress.

What makes your approach better than other dietitians or online advice?

Unlike generic nutrition services or broad online advice, my service is rooted in over 30 years of specialised experience in renal nutrition. I offer a deep understanding of the complexities of your kidney condition and tailor my advice to fit your situation, which sets my approach apart. By choosing this service, you're not just getting a diet plan; you're gaining a dedicated partner in managing your CKD.

I have a busy life. How time-consuming is this process?

I understand that time is a precious commodity. That's why my service is designed to be as efficient as possible. I offer flexible appointment times, including online consultations, to fit your schedule. The initial consultation and follow-up are streamlined to provide you with the maximum benefit without overwhelming your calendar, making managing your CKD a seamless part of your life.

How do I start with your CKD nutrition counselling service?

Beginning your journey to better kidney health is straightforward. The first step is obtaining a referral from your doctor, which allows me to tailor our initial consultation to your specific needs. From there, we'll work together to develop a personalised nutrition plan that addresses your kidney management goals. Ready to take the first step?
